As we pass from one hinterland of a season to another, we welcome in the change of the light, the perspectives of the seasons that have passed and the sensorial to welcome in the beginning of Autumn.
On this walk we will turn off our phones, look and listen, and adjust the lens we look through. What can we see in this light that otherwise might be invisible? What is our sonic understanding? What can we touch or feel under our feet and between our fingers? What is the landscape telling us about its history and those that lived there first. What might our words bring anew when the natural world prepares to go to ground?
This walk is a FREE inspiration walk, as part of the DPA's Wild Words project, which invites everyone to share the words they use to describe their connection with Dartmoor. Find out more about the project, and how to submit your writing, here:
https://dartmoorpreservation.co.uk/wild-words/
Anyone is welcome to join us on the walk, and there's no pressure to submit a written piece afterwards, although we'd be delighted to receive submissions from those who attend. The walk will be led by writer and events curator, Kirsteen McNish, who has years of experience curating in outdoor settings in one off special events.
We will be meeting at the layby close to the foot of Sharpitor, just outside Princetown, at 6pm. There is limited parking here, so we strongly recommend car sharing. We expect to finish the walk at 8pm. Please bring a water bottle and a torch, as we will be walking across uneven ground at dusk. Well behaved dogs on leads are welcome.
