🛩️ Honouring a Queensland WWII Flying Ace – Charles Crombie DSO DFC
We’re honoured to announce a striking new tribute coming to the Queensland Air Museum: a life-like figure and display honouring Brisbane-born WWII ace Charles Crombie DSO DFC.
With 12 confirmed aerial victories and 4 probables, Crombie served with incredible distinction in the European, Mediterranean and Pacific theatres. His bravery earned him the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Distinguished Service Order — the latter being second only to the Victoria Cross.
Tragically, Charles lost his life in a Beaufighter accident on August 26, 1945, just days after the end of WWII. He was only 31 years old.
This historical tribute, supported by the Sunshine Coast Council’s Heritage Grants Program, will be officially unveiled by his son, David Crombie, on:
🗓️ Tuesday, August 26 at 10:30 AM at the 📍 Queensland Air Museum.
Join us in honouring not only one of Australia’s greatest airmen — but all Queenslanders who served.
