Baths
Layering dreamy electronic soundscapes with unconventional sounds (think clicking pens and scissor snaps) is par for the course for Will Wiesenfeld, AKA Baths. He’s earned raves from the AV Club and ventured into more ambient territory with a side project, Geotic. Gut, Baths’ first proper album since 2017, dropped in February, led off by the Pixies-meets-bedroom-pop single “Sea of Men.”
Sofie Royer
Driven by a multidisciplinary “total art” approach, Sofie Royer explores consumer culture with deliciously catchy synth-pop. On Young-Girl Forever, she bounces from despair to bliss via dreamy production that celebrates and deconstructs the album’s titular ideal. She’s worked with Boiler Room, opened for the likes of LCD Soundsystem and Lana Del Rey, and now makes her way to Sled Island for her debut Calgary performance.
