Willie Thrasher & Linda Saddleback
A folk troubadour with a proudly Inuvialuit heart, Willie Thrasher’s road-worn country rock is a vital piece of Indigenous Canadiana, properly venerated after several of his tracks were featured on the 2014 Grammy-nominated compilation Native North America (Vol. 1), Joined by his partner Linda Saddleback, he returns to Sled Island for the first time in nearly a decade.
Amy Nelson
Like a conduit of voices from the past, Amy Nelson reverentially channels the sounds of depression-era blues and Appalachian mountain music while adding a distinct prairies twist. Don’t believe us? Check out the music video for “Educated Woman,” and get immersed in her slide-guitar sounds and unforgettable voice. Her return to Sled Island is a guaranteed hootenanny.
Spirit Hotel
Led by the enchanting Nataanii Cornelius, Spirit Hotel blends country, punk, shoegaze, and any other sound that underscores her thoughts. She sings about love and loss in a way that ensures every cowpoke and cowpunk is gonna feel it. Like Orville Peck discovering a fuzz pedal, their shows are a mystical hootenanny with invites for all.
Jolene Marie
Melancholic yet hopeful, Calgary singer-songwriter Jolene Marie’s lyrics layer bold vulnerability over a gentle and cyclical acoustic guitar. Her self-recorded debut EP Honey was released in September of 2023, showcasing a style that has been regularly compared to artists like Cat Power, Sibylle Baier and Mazzy Star.
