Join us for a fun and casual 4–5 hour float down the Bow River during the July 12th weekend! This is a free, community-organized event open to anyone who feels comfortable navigating a leisurely river float. We’ll meet at Baker Park to inflate and prepare our rafts, then launch into the Bow and float down past Prince’s Island Park, continuing on to the take-out point beyond Harvie Passage. After the float, we’ll gather at Barley Point for a relaxed potluck picnic dinner to wrap up the day.
Participants are responsible for bringing their own raft, life jacket, and mandatory safety equipment, including a flashlight, whistle, and a heavy buoyant throw line as per Alberta boating requirements. Don’t forget to also bring water, snacks, a Bluetooth speaker, sun protection (hat, sunscreen), towel, dry bag, and anything else that will keep you safe and happy on the river. If you’re renting from Lazy Day Raft Rentals at Baker Park, note that you will need to exit and return the raft at Prince’s Island Park and will not be able to complete the full route to Harvie Passage. For those using personal rafts, please ensure you continue all the way to Harvie Passage—stay to the right—and plan to join us afterward for the picnic.
Please understand that this is not a guided, commercial, or professionally supervised event. This is a friendly social float and each participant joins at their own risk. You are fully responsible for your own equipment, personal safety, and compliance with all applicable laws and river-use guidelines. There is no supervision provided, and neither the event host nor any other participants are liable for any accidents, injuries, equipment loss, or other damages that may occur before, during, or after the float. Conditions on the Bow River can change rapidly, and participants should be aware of weather, water levels, and potential hazards. Life jackets are mandatory for your safety.
By attending, you agree that you are participating voluntarily, accept full personal responsibility for your own safety, and release the host and all fellow attendees from any liability related to this event, including in cases of negligence. If you’d like to coordinate gear sharing or carpooling with others, ask us for the Facebook group chat link where attendees are organizing logistics.
