May brings with it a special significance in Queensland as we recognize it as Domestic and Family Violence Prevention Month. It's a time for our community to unite, to remember, and to honour those whose lives have been tragically affected by domestic and family violence.
On the first Wednesday of May, we observe Remembrance Day with a poignant ceremony. We gather to light candles, casting a gentle glow that honours the memory of the women, children, and men who have suffered at the hands of domestic and family violence.
Date: Wednesday 7th May 2025
Time: 5:30pm - 6:30pm
Location: Wharf One Cafe | 1 Wharf St, Cairns
Cost: Free
At 6pm sharp, across the state, we join together in a collective act of solidarity. Candlelight ceremonies illuminate the night, symbolizing our shared commitment to preventing further instances of domestic and family violence.
It's a powerful reminder that these losses are not inevitable—they're preventable. And it's up to each of us to raise awareness, educate ourselves and others, and actively work towards fostering safer, more supportive communities for all.
We invite you to join us in this meaningful event. Let's stand together in remembrance, raising awareness, and spreading compassion and support.
Together, let's strive to prevent future tragedies. Because when we unite, we truly can make a difference.
