Learn to Knit a Dishcloth - Free Event For Knitting Beginners

Want to learn how to knit with an easy and functional beginner's pattern? Come join this FREE workshop on knitting cotton dishcloths at the Burnaby Public Library Metrotown branch, sponsored by a Neighbourhood Small Grant.

This workshop is suitable for both beginners with no prior knitting experience and those with a little bit of knitting experience. All participants will be supplied with a ball of 100% cotton yarn and a set of knitting needles to keep. We will first learn the basics of casting on, knitting stitches, adding stitches, knitting stitches together, and then casting off - easy steps that will enable you to create functional, earth-friendly, and microplastic-free dishcloths!

This event is suitable for individuals aged 16 and above. Younger participants are welcome to join and work together with a parent or guardian on the project. For younger participants, no ticket is required. Only the parent or guardian will need a ticket. Only one set of supplies will be provided to each ticket holder. If a parent or guardian is supporting multiple participants, they will need to share the supplies. This is due to budgetary reasons - sorry!

About your Instructor: Stephanie Broder (they/them) is an experienced arts educator and community programming facilitator. While their primary passions lie in illustration, comics and writing, they also love any opportunity to make something by hand. They have been knitting since middle school and are eager to share their favourite pattern with you!
