🌲 Deer Lake Park is one of Metro Vancouver’s largest and most popular city parks. It’s located in Central Burnaby not far from Burnaby City Hall and halfway between Burnaby Lake and Metrotown. The Park offers hillside trails to the south, and a nice, flat, easy walk that circles the lake and passes by a viewing tower, a pier, and a beach area, all offering great scenery.

Distance: 8.5 km
📍 Meeting Spot: In front of Deer Lake Market, 5962 Sperling Ave. (corner of Sperling, Oakland, Walker, & Burris), Burnaby, before 10:00.
🥾 Route: We will take Sperling Ave to the Deer Lake beach, follow the boardwalks and trails on the north side of the lake to Royal Oak, and circle around to the south side upper trail and the 312 stairs (both ways). Continue on the upper trail to the viewpoint where we can stop for a snack break if the weather is nice enough. Up and down the Oakland trails, and the trail to Strawson St. Strawson St and Walker Ave back to Deer Lake Market.
🕒 This walk should be under 2.5 hours and 8.5km. We will walk at an intermediate pace, take microbreaks (~1min) at various junctions, and a snack break a bit before noon if the weather is nice enough. The walk will be postponed if the weather forecast shows more than light rain during the walk time.

🚌Transit options:
144 from Metrotown to Leibly stop (short walk back to the store), from SFU / Sperling Station to Walker stop;
133 from Holdom to Sperling @ Oakland stop, from Edmonds Station to Leibly stop (short walk back to the store).
🚙 Parking: On-street on Sperling and Walker.
🧻 Washrooms: Deer Lake beach, outhouse at Royal Oak.
🍎 Please bring plenty of water.

Be sure to arrive early/on time. If you are running late and I have not heard from you, my assumption is that you are not coming and you will be marked as a no show. People with multiple no-shows will be removed from the group. We can wait for people running a few minutes late. If we leave before you arrive, you can catch up to us with a little effort.
