About the event

BLPA - Weedbusters Fence-Building at Burnaby Lake Nature House
Join the Burnaby Lake Park Association Weedbusters to build a new fence around our 2025 native planting site!

About this Event

Help the Burnaby Lake Weedbusters at the Burnaby Lake Nature House

Last month during EcoBlitz we planted hundreds native plants at our 2025 restoration site by the Nature House, and we've spread a layer of mulch as ground cover over the site. Now we get to build a wooden split-rail fence around the perimeter, beside the park trail! We may also do a bit of weeding nearby, if time permits.

We will meet in front of the Nature House.

Tools and safety training will be provided. We will be using electric drills.

This event will be limited to 15 volunteers.

  • If you are a new volunteer, please select the "New Volunteer" Ticket.
  • If you are a returning volunteer, please select the "Returning Volunteer" Ticket.

What to bring
  • Water bottle, and your work/garden gloves if you prefer.
  • Dress for the weather - be prepared for a sunny day (hat, sunglasses, sunscreen) or for rain (waterproof jacket, pants) depending on the forecast. Layers will help for handling colder temperatures in the morning and warmer temperatures in the afternoon.
  • Wear long-sleeved clothes you don't mind getting dirty or torn, and closed-toe sturdy shoes or boots for wet & muddy conditions.
  • Anything you need for your comfort and safety, e.g. Medic*tion, allergy pills, insect repellant, etc...

Location

Burnaby Lake Nature House - look for signs

Please take note that if the weather is nice, the parking lot can be very busy. You may need to park along Piper Avenue or at Warner Loat Park right off of Winston which is a 450 m/5 minute walk to the Nature House. There are also train tracks crossing which may be blocked from time to time.

If you would like detailed driving directions or instructions on how to get there by transit, click here.

*CONSTRUCTION NOTICE* - Please take note that if you are coming from the West, there is construction along Winston Street which includes single lane traffic that may add an additional 5 minutes to your trip. Details for the Winston Street Sewer project can be found here.

Everyone is welcome!

We welcome everyone, including people with disabilities, people who are Black, Indigenous or People of Color (BIPOC), and people who are Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Intersex, Asexual (LGBTQIA+).

We’ll be using Burnaby Lake Regional Park trails which are accessible to wheelchair users, people who use mobility aids, or child strollers.

We look forward to seeing you!

Space is limited. If you can no longer attend, please cancel your ticket so that someone else may attend.
