ABOUT THIS MONTH'S LECTURE:
Germs killed many more than guns on the American frontier. Behind every enlisted man is an army of his own: doctors, nurses, and washerwomen sustaining him to live, and fight, another day. Closing out Ethan Allen Weekend 2025, Skye Makaris of Warner’s Recreated Regiment describes the daily grind of keeping soldiers clean and healthy and demonstrates some techniques applicable even to the 21st century.

ABOUT THE SPEAKER
Skye Makaris is EAHM’s Lead Educator and Distaff Coordinator for Warner’s Recreated Regiment. Long ago, she took to heart the idea that well-behaved women rarely make history; she now seeks, in her capacity as a living historian, to interpret the lives of the forgotten women who quietly keep the world turning. Her hand-sewn historical clothing has won awards from the Society for Creative Anachronism, and her research has been published in outlets around the country and the world. Skye lectured at the Museum on working women’s clothing in September 2022, and she is delighted to be back.

ABOUT THE EAHM'S FREE MONTHLY LECTURE SERIES:
The Homestead Monthly Lecture Program is free for all the attend! It covers various topics pertaining to Vermont history, early American history, and the Homestead site. Each lecture is followed by Q&A with the presenter.
