A 4 player minimum is required, but the prize pool will be altered to reflect total entrants for all events of less than 8 players, and a 16 player maximum will be in place for this first event. Bracket 2 Points Tournament Guidelines
The tournament will be a series of 3, 2-hour long rounds with pods of 3-4. Players will be randomly assembled in pods for the first round and their seat order will also be randomized. In rounds 2 and 3, players will be assembled based on total overall points at the end of each round and their seat order will also be randomized.
Before the game begins, players will need to review the Base Point Deck (Black Text). This includes both positive (+) and negative (-) point cards. Players can earn any of these cards when they meet their conditions but not more than one card with the same name in the same instance. When a player earns a card, they take it from the Base Point Deck and place it in their play area. These cards are always in the public zone and can be viewed at any time by any player upon request. A player can earn multiple cards of the same name over the course of a game, however, not in the same instance. The players will also need to randomly add 10 cards from the Bonus Point Deck (Red Text); all remaining cards are set aside and cannot be earned this game. Determining who goes first will involve a random outcome to determine player 1. We recommend roll 2d6 and the highest roll without tying another player gets to choose player 1.
During the games players will follow the standard Multiplayer guidelines for Commander play; mulligan, turn order, priority order and so on. Once all players are ready to begin the game after resolving mulligans the Judge will begin the timer for all players; do not begin playing until time has begun. It will be the players’ duty to maintain board states and gameplay throughout the match which includes the claiming of points cards. If there is an issue or dispute regarding the normal rules or the special rules for the point cards call for “Judge.”
Briefly, points can only be earned when the conditions to do so are met and if the phase passes without the player claiming points they will remain available in the deck until its conditions are met again. Also, once all cards for a point are removed from the deck those points can no longer be earned, including negative points. The negative points for taking more than 3 minutes on a turn “Are you Done Yet?” can only be issued by a Judge once “time” has been called on a player. If this occurs, play will pause until the Judge begins a timer. Once the timer starts the player will have 3 minutes to complete their turn. Time only ticks for them while they have priority and not during other players’ priority or during rules questions regarding the game or the point cards. For this card, once earned on a turn it cannot be earned again during the same turn by that player. For the card “Selfish” and similar cards referencing a ‘Board Wipe’ we will consider any spell or ability that, in a single turn, removes or attempts to remove all permanents of a single type from play for their opponents. The player who controls said ‘Board Wipe’ can have their own permanents affected or not. If some or all of the intended targets are not removed by either player intervention or the permanents’ abilities will not disqualify the attempt. However, if a card or ability does not affect all permanents of a type intrinsically but does remove all permanents of a type controlled by their opponents as a matter of fact it will be considered a ‘Board Wipe.’
At the end of the game players will need to add all their positive and negative points together and use the slip provided to record such scores. On the slip are a few additional points a player may have earned when the game ended for them. In the case of multiple rounds record each one separately in a column with care taken to note the total negative points earned each round. Tie breakers for placement and pod assembly will be the total negative points earned followed by overall placement in the pod.
