longstoryshort isn’t interested in coloring inside the music industry’s lines. Driven by the conviction that pure, authentic creativity can’t be cleanly compartmentalized, the New York native’s career is an act of subversion illustrating in real-time that the most compelling art comes from a refusal to conform.
This mentality imbues his music, yielding a sound that’s one of zero. It’s nuanced and unconventional, a sonic signature shaped by UK garage, future garage, and bass house influence, with high energy and emotional charge to boot. Dark, forward-thinking, and deeply resonant, it’s “dance music for the heavy-hearted,” as he calls it — melodic enough to evoke emotion, heavy enough to shake a warehouse at 2 AM. As he’s grown his catalog, it’s become clear that longstoryshort thrives in contrasts such as these. His style is raw but refined, melancholic yet euphoric, non-commercial but still successful.
longstoryshort’s collaboration with Wax Motif, “On The Low,” is especially potent proof of how these binaries coalesce to create concrete impact. The kinetic one-off, released via Divided Souls, has amassed upwards of 17 million streams since its April 2022 release, broadening longstoryshort’s reach while evincing his ear for innovative sound design. His more recent team up with Dillon Francis, “Take Me Away,” only further upped this ante following its release via Spinnin’ Records last year.
While “On The Low” and “Take Me Away” represent recent flashpoints, longstoryshort’s rising profile is built on a strong foundation of mostly solo original productions that trace back to 2019 and have prompted releases on prominent labels like Pilot (UKF), NIGHTMODE, and Circus Records. This includes four EPs — IN MY MIND EP (2024, NIGHTMODE), HER (2023, Lost In Dreams), redemption (2022, JustUs Recs), Chapter 1 (Warefare) (2020, JustUs Recs) — and a slate of official remixes for artists including The Bloody Beetroots (“Warp 1.9 (feat. Steve Aoki,” 2024), Dillon Francis (“Pretty People,” 2024), and ODESZA (“Wide Awake," "Line Of Sight,” 2024), to name just a few.
In the six years since he established the longstoryshort project, the visionary’s technical skill and indomitable commitment to making the music he feels compelled to make, irrespective of trends and commercial formulas, has steadily propelled him to increasingly larger stages. The United Talent Agency-signed artist has performed at several major North American festivals and venues, ranging from EDC Las Vegas to Los Angeles’ Academy (in support of Wax Motif) to Denver’s Mission Ballroom (in support of Chase & Status). This year, longstoryshort builds on his momentum in the live circuit via the extension of his debut series of solo headline shows — a key milestone that has taken him across Denver (Larimer Lounge), Seattle (Barboza), Toronto (NOMAD), and Tempe (Darkstar), respectively.
Meanwhile, longstoryshort continues to offer an inside look at his evolving creative process, sharing videos across his social platforms that chronicle his journey in music production. With a devoted fanbase that truly sees and understands his vision, a relentless drive to innovate, and an ethos rooted in authenticity, longstoryshort isn’t here to play the game.
