About the event

INTERNATIONAL DAY OF ACTION: July 5, 2025
Elbows Up for Canada - Buffalo, NY: 11AM-1PM at Freedom Park, 1170 Niagara St, Buffalo, NY, organized by Good Neighbors Getting It Done, and Power to the People - Upstate NY

WHAT—A series of coordinated rallies from the Pacific to the Atlantic, from Alaska to Vermont to London, England, celebrating the longstanding friendship between the United States and Canada.

WHEN—Saturday, July 5, 2025. Various times, across several time zones.

WHERE—The ‘Elbows Up for Canada’ movement represents a coalition of American and Canadian advocacy groups united in their commitment to preserving and strengthening the relationship between neighboring countries that share the world's longest undefended border and that have been steadfast allies for generations. The movement includes Indivisible chapters, regional advocacy organizations, and community groups from across the US-Canada border.

WHY—Canada is its own sovereign nation, and has long been one of America’s closest allies, repeatedly giving aid—from September 11th to the recent California fires, among countless examples. Canadians come to help.
The US-Canada relationship represents one of the world's most integrated economies, with over $780 billion in annual trade and millions of jobs dependent on cross-border commerce. Canada is the single largest market for US goods. Beyond economics, the countries share family ties, with many dual citizens and cross-border families, along with shared values of democracy, diversity, and human rights.

"When we look across that border, we see friends, family members, and business partners," said Kate Powers, a rally co-organizer. "These rallies will remind everyone that our friendship has weathered many storms and will continue to thrive."
Organizers emphasize that the movement is peaceful and positive, focused on celebrating what unites rather than protesting what divides. The rallies aim to demonstrate the grassroots support for continued US-Canada cooperation across economic, environmental, and security issues.
"In an era when division seems to dominate headlines, we want to show that the spirit of friendship and cooperation is alive and well along our shared border," co-organizer Audrey Bourriaud said. "These rallies prove that ordinary citizens on both sides want to build bridges, not walls."

The Elbows Up for Canada movement is committed to celebrating and strengthening the historic friendship between the United States and Canada. This day of action is happening because of the determination of many partner organizations and groups across the United States, Canada and the UK.
