🤩 Calling all Persian speakers and enthusiasts in Budapest! Join us this summer for Persian is Sugar, a relaxed, monthly book circle where we come together to read, reflect, and celebrate Persian literature. 📖📚
Each month, we’ll explore one Persian book and meet to share thoughts in a friendly, informal discussion. Whether you finish the entire book or just part of it, you’re warmly welcome to join and contribute!
During the first meeting on 30th June we discussed Bozorg Alavi’s famous book: Her Eyes.
For the upcoming session on 18th July we are going to read the most iconic and hauntingly influential work by Iranian modernist writer Sadegh Hedayat: The Blind Owl (Boof-e Koor).

More details:
Published in 1937, The Blind Owl (Boof-e Koor) is the most iconic and hauntingly influential work by Iranian modernist writer Sadegh Hedayat. Written during his time in India and originally published in a limited edition in Bombay, this short novel has since become a cornerstone of 20th-century Persian literature. Told through the fragmented mind of a nameless narrator, the novel explores themes of madness, death, obsession, and isolation. With its surreal, dream-like structure and poetic language, The Blind Owl blurs the line between reality and hallucination, offering a powerful reflection of existential despair and psychological breakdown.
To feel the surreal atmosphere of The Blind Owl, here’s a powerful musical interpretation by Mohsen Chavoshi — Buf-e Koor.
