It’s been a while since we last gathered to celebrate a new Panel issue.
At times, we weren’t even sure it would come together again. We missed this hustle.
Our team is thrilled that it's happening again.
NOW IT IS OFFICIAL:
A NEW PANEL ISSUE IS ALMOST HERE.
“Life is made up of relationships—those as enduring as the ones between parents and their children; those as fleeting as the ones between strangers moving to the side to make room for each other on a street. The consistent link between any type of relationship is language, whether it be spoken, written or signed; explicit or implicit; as subtle as a narrowing eye or as obvious as a fist to the face. We are, all of us, desperate to be heard, to be seen – to be understood.”
(Rachel Velsher, senior editor of Panel)
We are honored to invite you all to celebrate the release of this special edition with us!
The launch party program includes:
– Talks and readings centered around language, the issue’s key theme
– A chance to meet our talented contributors (from Hungary and beyond) and new additions to the Panel team
– Discounted Panel Literature Association products
– An evening spent in the company of lovely people
– An after-party at a neighborhood bar
“And then there's life. I've seen sunrises and sunsets. I've seen all four of my children's births. I've been married and divorced. I've seen oceans, seas, and cities. I’ve been on both sides of betrayal. I’ve heard the mortal word cancer. I've been in love, and I've had my heart broken. I've buried parents, and I'm also a grandfather. I've stood with families in the hospital forced to choose fatality over their loved one's life. I’ve been forced to go when I wanted to stay and stay when I wanted to leave. I’ve felt financial famine and freedom. I've seen supposed amateur art as well as masterpieces. I've watched and witnessed world sporting events. I've wondered on mountaintops and wandered in their valleys. I've done all of this with others and alone. I always wanted to write, read, speak, or hear some sense-making sentence to best understand these sensual situations. The truth is, there were no words.”
(Russell Ridgeway, writer, author of the essay “Language Always Works” published in Issue 12 of Panel)
The launch party for Issue 12 will take place at our beloved Massolit, whose team has been our dear friends and partners for years.
“May I
Give back to the earth the words
Rooting, flowering fear
Rotting in me for so long—
I incant the time
So the trees may speak them”
(from the poem “Explosions” by Egle Elena Murauskaite)
