Without ever knowing, the heroine of this Vincenzo Bellini opera performs death-defying feats at dizzying heights, while the singer tasked with portraying her is only too aware that hers is one of the bel canto repertoire’s most beautiful and risky roles. On this occasion, it will be Nadine Sierra demonstrating her virtuosity with a charm that is as insurmountable as it is fragile, while the director of the production to open the global season of MET HD broadcasts is Rolando Villazón, whose imagination shines through more than ever in response to this artistic challenge.
