About the event

Marcel Gidote’s Holy Crab [CZ] @Szimpla

Czech psychedelic band established in 2019, mixing influences of rock, kraut, and jazz with a modern sound. The current five members are Jan Bukovjan on vocals, tenor sax, flute, clarinet, and guitar, Ondřej Vávra on vocals and guitar, Viktor Eberle on vocals, keyboard, and synths, Marek Sobota on bass, and Matěj Šolc on drums. MGHC released their debut EP, Bay Of Roots, under the independent Czech label Polí5 in 2020. Then the band started working with manager Šárka Hlaváčková, and in 2021, they self-produced their first full-length album, Humidity Breaking Limits, where they moved forward to a more complex but heavier musical expression. The next, called Farm Alarm, came in 2023 and is based on more vocal parts, acoustic guitar, and synths, and it works as a striking reminder of the climatic crisis of our planet. After that, two more singles came (Felina, Giant Stabs). In March 2024, they experienced a big boom with the soundtrack for an indie PC game called Felvidék, hitting high streaming numbers and selling tapes worldwide. This May, they have released their biggest project so far - a double album called Sorcerers Laughing Out In The Heat.

Shortly, MGHC established itself in a few years as one of the most progressive Czech psychedelic bands, playing several extraordinary concerts, for example, one with legendary Japanese psychedelic band Acid Mother’s Temple (also with Acid Tongue, Tonstartssbandht, Lumerians, Triptides, and ROAR). The band had reached several magazines and radio stations. Thanks to their mix of genres, MGHC’s fanbase is still growing next to Czech bands like Ida The Young, Island Mint, sinks, Madhouse Express, and K*ll the Dandies. In 2022, they started to play abroad, experienced two European tours, and have already gone to Germany, France, Slovenia, Slovakia, Poland, Hungary, Bosnia, and Serbia.
