Want to learn something new that is all about connection, joy and ease? FORRÓ might be your thing.
This course is for complete beginners – no previous dance experience needed. We’ll dive into the fundamentals of forró, a partner dance from Northeastern Brazil, and give you a strong base to start dancing with confidence and awareness.
⥤ Throughout the course, we’ll explore not just the basic steps and figures, but also what it means to dance with someone. We’ll talk about the ideas and assumptions we often carry about leading and following, and together we’ll question these concepts and explore if we can find new meanings for them.
✺ Inspired by the teaching approach of Pira Forró School (MG, Brazil) and other incredible teachers like Juliana Freire (SP, Brazil), or Ian Pacheco (RJ,Brazil), our classes invite everyone to learn both leading and following - not as fixed social roles, but as skills that all dancers can develop.
⥤ You’ll be encouraged to build body awareness, explore intuitive movement, and connect that to your dance. Forró is a close-contact dance, but your comfort always comes first. We all come with different backgrounds and boundaries - let’s respect that!
✺ We’ll also take time to explore forró in its cultural context: its roots, its music, and how it lives as a cultural movement in Brazil and beyond. Understanding where this dance comes from is part of how we connect more deeply to it.
⥤ No need to bring a partner. We’ll rotate during the class. But if you prefer to stay with your partner, that’s totally okay too - just let us know in advance (you can mention it in the notes when signing up).
The course will be held in English or Hungarian, depending on the participants!
