Budapest Táncszínház: Toldi

Arany János elbeszélő költeménye a magyar irodalom örök klasszikusa, szófordulatai szállóigeként élnek napjaink nyelvében, a főhős alakja pedig operában, animációs filmben, fizikai táncszínházi előadásban, monodrámában is megelevenedett már. De ismerjük-e a művet eléggé? – teszik fel a kérdést a Budapest Táncszínház alkotói. Az mindenesetre szembetűnő, hogy Arany János kortársainak nagyszabású alkotásaihoz, például Petőfi Sándor János vitézéhez vagy Madách Imre Tragédiájához képest a Toldi kevesebb figyelmet keltett a táncszínpadokon. A két koreográfus, Sághy Alexandra és Tókos Attila vallja, hogy egy, a kortárs táncszínház formanyelvére építő, de a nézők képzeletét a próza, a tánc, a zene és a film együttes hatásával megragadó összművészeti előadással a Toldi világát a fiatal generációk számára is izgalmassá lehet tenni.

János Arany’s epic poem is an enduring classic of Hungarian literature, with turns of phrases that are still parts of common parlance, and a hero who has been revived in opera, animated film, physical theatre production and monodrama. But do we know the work well enough? – ask the creators of Budapest Dance Theatre. What is certain is that, compared to the ambitious works of János Arany’s contemporaries, like Sándor Petőfi’s John the Valiant and Imre Madách’s The Tragedy of Man, Toldi has been given the dance treatment less often. The choreographers, Alexandra Sághy and Attila Tókos are convinced that the world of Toldi can be made compelling for today’s young generation through the formal idiom of contemporary dance theatre, with a production that captures the imagination with the fusion of prose, dance, music and film.
