Varga Veronika Alla Greca nevű görög tradicionális dalworkshopja 5 alkalmas sorozat formájában tér vissza a Balkan Heritage Cultural Center szalonjába. A most induló workshopsorozat középpontjában a görögök világhírű városi folkzenei jelensége, a rebetiko áll, amelyet a műfaj legendás női előadóinak felvételei és történetei alapján ismerhetsz meg.
Mi várható?
„A rebetiko hősnői” című dalworkshopsorozat 5 alkalmán a rebetiko egy-egy megkerülhetetlen, műfaj-, illetve stílusteremtő női előadójának dalával és személyes történetével ismerkedhetsz meg: nemcsak különféle dallamokat sajátíthatsz el, de közelebb kerülhetsz a rebetiko egyes korszakainak jellegzetes hangvételéhez, témáihoz is. Az 1920-as és 1950-es évek közé eső, női előadók által híressé vált zenei felvételeket hívjuk segítségül, tehát a lehető legautentikusabb forrást és formát választjuk a daltanulásra: eredeti felvételek nyomán, hallás után sajátítjuk el az egyes dalokat.
Miért fontosak a rebetiko történetében a női előadók?
A rebetiko kezdetben főként férfi zenészekhez kötődött, de a női énekesek új hangot, új érzelmi mélységet vittek a műfajba, emellett jelenlétük meghatározó volt a korszak női egyenlőségi kérdéseiben.
- A workshopalkalmak éneklés központúak, és habár görög nyelvű dalokkal foglalkozunk, a program magyar, illetve angol nyelven zajlik, tehát előzetes görög nyelv- és zenei tudás nélkül is bárki csatlakozhatsz.
- A barátságos atmoszférában zajló, közös daltanulás kulturális utazást és különleges zenei élményt ad, amely által közelebbről és részleteiben megismerkedhetsz a hagyományos görög zenével, de akár a görög nyelvtanulásban is elindíthat.
- A közös éneklés örömét hasonló gondolkodású és értékrendű emberekkel élheted át, új közösségbe léphetsz be, és akár új barátokat is szerezhetsz.
- Mutasd meg másoknak is, mit tanultál! A programot nyilvános koncerttel zárjuk le a sorozatot követően.

Rebetiko Heroines – Greek Sing-along w/ Veronika Varga
Veronika Varga’s Greek traditional song workshop Alla Greca returns to the salon of the Balkan Heritage Cultural Center in the form of a 5-session series. This new workshop series focuses on Greece’s world-renowned urban folk phenomenon, rebetiko, explored through the recordings, repertoire, and stories of the genre’s legendary female performers.
Discover the greatest voices and most memorable songs sung by women who shaped rebetiko in early 20th-century Greece. Through this special singing workshop led by Veronika Varga, you can explore the musical world and cultural background of rebetiko, with a focus on the repertoire of legendary female singers and their perspectives.
What to expect:
● Learn iconic urban folk songs from a special 100-year-old repertoire: We will work with original recordings made famous by female singers between the 1920s and 1950s – drawing on the most authentic sources possible. The songs will be taught by ear, directly from the original recordings.
● Explore the rebetiko genre and its distinctive styles through listening and singing its unique songs. Alongside learning different melodies, you will also get closer to the distinctive moods and themes of rebetiko across its different periods.
● Discover the important role of women in the development of rebetiko music: Although rebetiko was at first associated mainly with male musicians, female singers brought new voices and new emotional depth to the genre. Their presence was also significant in the wider context of women’s equality at the time.
● Sing in Greek and learn rare expressions and Greek slang (argo) that can even surprise native speakers: The workshops are centered on singing. While the songs are in Greek, the sessions are held in Hungarian and English, so no prior knowledge of Greek language or music is required. The friendly, collaborative atmosphere offers not only a cultural journey and a special musical experience, but can even be a starting point for learning the Greek language.
● Experience the joy of singing together.
● Meet like-minded people and become part of a new community, even make new friends.
● Show what you’ve learned! We will conclude the series with a public concert.
