Hoever moet je gaan, hoe lang moet je volhouden voordat je kunt zeggen dat je alles hebt geprobeerd? Men zegt dat er niet zoiets als falen bestaat, dat elke breuk een ervaring is die ons sterkt voor nieuwe avonturen. Maar klopt dat wel in de liefde? Wat zegt het einde van onze liefdeservaringen over onszelf? En hechten we te veel belang aan het woord ‘liefde’? Moeten we afstappen van het gewicht dat we eraan toekennen en het begrip herdefiniëren? En moeten we om daartoe te komen niet beginnen bij het einde?
Toen KVS-gezicht Pitcho Womba Konga (bekend van creaties als Kuzikiliza en Fire Will Become Ashes, But Not Now) enkele jaren geleden op de roman L’amour est très surestimé van de Frans-Algerijnse schrijfster Brigitte Giraud botste, gingen er nieuwe deuren voor hem open. Hij begon zich af te vragen welke rol liefde kan en mag spelen in een mensenleven. En of we het concept niet te strikt zijn beginnen aflijnen.
In een stijl die het midden houdt tussen theater, slam poetry en zang, nodigt de regisseur ons uit om de bokkensprongen van de liefde te verkennen, via een collage van verhalen, overgoten met een saus van elektro, gospel, afro en chanson. Met in de prachtige cast: Lisette Ma Neza, Marie Daulne, Clarice Malamba (Nsangu), Rokia Bamba en Caro Abutoh.

Il y a quelques années, Pitcho Womba Konga, figure emblématique du KVS (connu pour des créations telles que Kuzikiliza et Fire Will Become Ashes, But Not Now) a découvert le roman L'Amour est très surestimé de l'écrivaine franco-algérienne Brigitte Giraud et de nouvelles perspectives se sont ouvertes à lui. Il a commencé à se demander quel rôle l'amour peut et doit jouer dans la vie d'un être humain. Et si nous n'avons pas commencé à délimiter ce concept de manière trop stricte.
Dans un style hybride, entre théâtre, slam et chanson, le metteur en scène nous invite à parcourir les méandres de l’amour à travers une mosaïque d’histoires, le tout sublimé par un savant mélange d’électro, de gospel, d’afro et de chanson. Avec Lisette Ma Neza, Marie Daulne, Clarice Malamba (Nsangu), Rokia Bamba et Caro Abutoh.

How far should you go, how much should you endure before you can say you’ve tried everything? They say there’s no such thing as failure, and that every break-up is an experience that strengthens us for new adventures. But is that true of love? What do the end of our love experiences tell us about ourselves? And do we attach too much value to the word ‘love’? Should we lighten the load we ascribe to it and redefine the concept? And to do so, shouldn’t we start at the end?
When KVS face Pitcho Womba Konga (known for his creations Kuzikiliza and Fire Will Become Ashes, But Not Now) encountered the novel L’amour est très surestimé (Love Is Very Overrated) by French-Algerian writer Brigitte Giraud a few years back, new doors opened for him. He began to question what role love can, and should, play in a person’s life, and whether we are defining the concept too narrowly. In a style that mixes theatre, slam poetry and singing, the director invites us to explore the leaps and bounds of love through a collage of stories, seasoned with a mix of electro, gospel, Afro beats, and chanson. The incredible cast consists of Lisette Ma Neza, Marie Daulne, Clarice Malamba (Nsangu), Rokia Bamba and Caro Abutoh.
