KIOSK X MEAKUSMA present: HERBERT & MOMOKO, 01.08.2025

Fresh off the release of Herbert and Momokos collaborative Clay album, Kiosk Radio and Meakusma are thrilled to present the duo's only Belgian concert this year, on August 1st in the Parc Royal in Brussels.

House music legend Herbert and drummer/vocalist Momoko Gill released Clay in June 2025, a thrilling sonic adventure that explores moments of dancefloor contemplation and early morning introspection through a fresh take on the deepest end of house music, and more, creating songs that ebb and flow across stylistic boundaries. Updating the paradigm of his iconic Around The House album, Herbert creates rhythmic backdrops that surge into elation and surprise, with Momoko Gill's dexterous melodic writing floating beautifully on top, her vocal contributions both intimate and uplifting. Clay is a dreamscape of intense beauty and engagement.

Momoko Gill, also known as MettaShiba, is self-taught in drums and composition. She has collaborated with the likes of Coby Sey, Tirzah, Nadeem Din-Gabisi, and Alabaster DePlume, honing a unique style that dwells on the friction between genres. Drums and vocals are her instruments of choice, but she also plays keyboards, vibraphone, and whatever is put in front of her. She gravitates towards alternative approaches to jazz, soul, traditional musics, hip-hop, improvisation, and enjoys working with musicians that have a bold and original voice. She grew up between Japan, the US, and the UK and has a mixed cultural background.

Matthew Herbert needs no introduction. He has been redefining house music and contemporary electronic music ever since the mid-90s. Through an incredible run of singles and albums, he has restructured the deep end of deep house. His Around The House and Bodily Functions albums still bear testimony to a unique dive into the possibilities of dance music. Herbert has conjured up an incredible body of work that has seen him tackle political topics through a variety of experimental musical practices, unafraid of confrontation. He also makes soundtracks for film and television, works as a writer, produces, and mixes for other artists, runs the Accidental Records label, and founded and leads the Radiophonic Institute, championing innovation in sound and music. He recently wrote the score for Rebecca Lenkiewicz's new film Hot Milk.

Live support comes from PiP × Ambroos De Schepper. PiP is short for Pepijn Gyssels, a Brussels-based electronic music producer, sound collector, DJ, and promoter who is on a mission to harvest life's surface noise and reconstruct it into listening experiences. Brussels saxophonist Ambroos De Schepper, known as a member of the jazztronic Bandler Ching, shares a similarly outsider musical vision. They recently released the Sans Loup EP, an exploration of music that defies categorization. Based on improvisation, Sans Loup is all about texture, atmosphere, and ambiance. The EP was released on PiP's new ZitStill label, which intends to offer a platform for like-minded artists. Sans Loup is the soundtrack to a cinemascope summer, full of detail, epics, gentle contradiction, and muted engagement. An exploration of space, field recordings, and musical signifiers.

DJ Support will come from Caspro, an amazing DJ based in the German-speaking part of Belgium. He spins electro, techno, and house, while easily reaching beyond. He runs a radio show on community radio Studio Néau in Eupen and is involved in the organization of many parties in East Belgium.

Doors at 18.00. It is advised to be there early!
