"A REAL PAIN" FILM SCREENING

Two cousins at opposite ends of the social/economic spectrum, reconnect as they travel to Poland to honour their recently deceased grandmother. However, this is anything but a formulaic road movie meets buddy flick. Firstly, there is a brilliant performance in front of and behind the camera by writer, director, and co-star Jesse Eisenberg, (BAFTA – Best Original Screenplay). But it’s Kieran Culkin’s raw, frantic, fragile performance (Academy Award, Golden Globe & BAFTA for Best Supporting Actor) that will shake you to the core. A Real Pain is a razor-sharp comedy with verbal sparring and a charged bond between the two characters that drives the story and its reflection on how we connect as humans. In a world where we are confronted by the lessons of history that we fail to learn at our peril, this is a haunting film that will make you laugh, cry, and ponder – are we living our life to the fullest?
