About this Event

651 ARTS and The Soapbox Presents are back again, bringing you our Fifth Annual Juneteenth Celebration! We’re taking to The Plaza at 300 Ashland on Saturday June 21 for We Outside! A Brooklyn Juneteenth, Vol III.


Vibe to live music, dance, spoken word, and so much more as we celebrate freedom through individual expression. The Plaza will be brought to life to life in full force with our jam-packed event! Join us for a day of culture and community!



THE LINEUP


🥁Young, Gifted and Black celebrates HBCU culture with marching bands, majorette squads and a step show!

🛍️ Made Black features a market filled with Brooklyn’s finest Black artisans and entrepreneurs. Find contemporary fashion, accessories, home goods, handmade jewelry, and more - all Made Black.

🎸 Stoop Sessions, Freedom Songs explores our journey through protest music to a party of radical joy.

🪩 The Cypher invites participants to share stories of their cities, countries, and cultures through dance. We’ll explore liberation through movement, traveling around the country, using dance as our vehicle and freedom as our fuel.

✍🏿 Melanated Notes pairs poet with musician for an aural exploration of freedom.

🌮 Food Trucks - You asked, we heard! We received overwhelming feedback on bringing more food options to The Plaza. We're thrilled to announce that this year's We Outside will feature food trucks!


This event is FREE, and all ages are welcome.

651 ARTS’ Juneteenth Celebration is an annual commemoration of African-American liberation, resilience and self-determination featuring performances and community engagement activities that honor the brilliance and vitality of Black culture.

The Plaza at 300 Ashland sits at the heart of the Brooklyn Cultural District, adjacent to the brownstone Brooklyn neighborhoods of Fort Greene, Boerum Hill, and Park Slope. DBP has partnered with premier Brooklyn arts organizations such as BAM, BRIC, Brooklyn Public Library, Mark Morris Dance Group, MoCADA, 651 Arts, and Theatre for a New Audience (TFANA) to offer free, high-quality programming for everyone. About The Soapbox Presents

THE SOAPBOX PRESENTS is a platform, literally and figuratively, for Black and brown expression. Founded by Marija Abney, in response to the M**der of George Floyd, The Soapbox Presents creates a space for us to commune, resist, be rejuvenated and revived in celebration of the brilliance of Black and brown people through the performing arts.

Since 2020, the organization has provided free arts programming to community featuring some of NYC’s most talented artists. From Mahogany L Browne (Lincoln Center’s first poet-in-residence) to Sean Mason (arranger, composer, pianist, and featured guest of the Wynton Marsalis Quintet), The Soapbox Presents gives Black and brown artists the opportunity to give back to their communities and each and every artist featured on the platform is paid.
