Dive into the world of soft glass sculpture with our Underwater Wonders class! Learn how to work off mandrel and sculpt colorful soft glass rods to create stunning sea-inspired sculptures, including fish, turtles, seaweed and more. The class will explore the basics of sculpting and surface design, and touch on concepts like tool use, annealing, studio safety, and more! Students can expect to make 3-4 glass critters!
What to expect: Flameworking with soft glass requires a little practice at heat control with the torch to create successful sculptures. After demonstrations, expect to make between 3-5 successful objects in this class, and a couple failures, while gaining confidence and skill in the studio. Read more about how to prepare for class on our Registration Info page.
Flameworking can involve a mix of seated and standing activities, including working with glass rods and torches. The environment can be bright and loud at times. Handling glass and tools may require a certain level of dexterity. Learn more about accessibility on our website.
Eligibility: No previous experience required. Open to ages 14 and up.
Pick-up: The glass needs to cool down overnight, so the students will have to return to UrbanGlass once notified to pick up their work.
