Rueda de Bullerengue: Workshop + Tonada Perfomance

Bulla en el Barrio is a bullerengue group founded and led by Carolina Oliveros and Camilo Rodriguez. The group has been based in New York City since 2015, and was envisioned as a collective and a study group.

Bulla en el Barrio begins a process of connection and visibility with the elder Bullerengue artists. With their own resources and with a DIY attitude they were able to invite master drummer Emilsen Pacheco from San Juan de Uraba to the U.S for the first time.

In 2018 they were able to invite master cantadora Darlina Saenz and Andrea Villalobos from Necocli, Antioquia.

In 2019 also as part of Bullerengue Transnacional, Bulla en el Barrio co-produced an album for Barranquilla based group, Tonada. The album was published by NYCT under the tittle “Rueda de Bullerengue vol 2”

This year, Tonada will finally be in NYC for the first time to share the powerful and soul-stirring bullerengue of Barranquilla joined by DJ sets from Niño Lento Es Fuego and Caroletta, craft rum cocktails by Pa’lante, and arepas for sale throughout the night.
