Girls! Girls! Girls!
by Anike Sonuga
August 10th, 7:30pm
Competition, friendship, lots of jokes, and the general looming eye of the patriarchy. 'Girls! Girls! Girls!' in short is about strippers. Baby stripper, Star, comes to the club searching for a couple bands and maybe a few friends, but swirling around her is six other dancers and a manager with an inferiority complex & a thing for younger girls. Despite the mixed signals from her coworkers and mixed feelings about the environment, she is determined to stay in the spotlight.
Little Hugs, Tiny Kisses
by Catherine Bloom
August 29th, 7:30pm
After gambling away her parents' retirement fund with her now ex-boyfriend, Nora impulsively relocates to Carroll Gardens, Brooklyn where she gets a job as a live-in nanny for a recently adopted twelve year old with a growth disorder, Helena-Marie. But when Helena-Marie’s perverse behavioral problems reveal themselves, chaos sets in, questioning the reality of who the adults in the household really are.
The Ballad of Joan and Jane
by Sarah Groustra
September 5th, 8pm
A quiet American suburb is rocked by the abduction of a sixth grade girl. As they wait for news of her death or her safe return, three of her classmates are visited by the ghosts of Joan of Arc and Calamity Jane as they prepare for their sixth grade formal. A play about the moment when you learn that violence can happen anywhere, and how to grow into your womanhood when becoming feminine feels like becoming prey.
We're offering an early-bird bundle of all 3 plays for $25! You only need to purchase this kind of ticket under one date, and someone from Harlot will email you within two business days to confirm your attendance at all 3. Act fast, 3-in-1 tickets must be purchased by August 1st!
Plays to Watch Out For is a new-work development series prod by Harlot. We offer emerging writers the time, space, and resources to develop a new play through a weeklong rehearsal period, culminating in a public reading. We hope to provide these writers with the support, collaborators, and documentation they need to ready their script for its next phase of life. Harlot is a new theatre company developing experimental, vicious, and pointedly tacky work from emerging playwrights, focusing on offering opportunities to writers who approach gender and sexuality from the margins.
