About this Event

The Free Black Women's Library is a social art project, literary hub, social site, Black Feminist archive, and community care space that features a free store, period pantry, backyard garden, virtual reading club, weekly book swap, w wide array of free public programs and a collection of over 5000 written by Black women and Black nonbinary folks. This project was started and is run by artist and library worker OlaRonke Akinmowo in 2015. Our theme for the month of July is PLAY.

Hot Honey & Ink: A Sapphic Poetry Revival is a multi-sensory celebration of Black sapphic storytelling, creativity, and community. This event merges poetry, live music, and hands-on zine-making to cultivate a space of radical self-expression and collective joy.This event includes a reading accompanied by live music, a poetry writing workshop and a zine making session, as well as an oppurtunity to purchase copies of the book.Author's Bio:Jasmin Benward (she/they) is a Black, queer, non-binary, invisibly disabled multidisciplinary artist from Ft. Worth, Texas, raised in Atlanta. A dual Master's graduate from the Metropolitan College of New York, Jasmin is a screenwriter, author, music supervisor, A&R/sync rep, and musician (NAM). Founder of Create the Room, they’ve received development from GLAAD, Women in Film, Keychange U.S. and more. Their debut poetry collection, Crying in LA: Sapphic Longing in Tongues and Tears, releases June 2025. They live, love, and create coast-to-coast.
