Gone to the Dogs® is known for our puppy products, but this workshop is for the cat parents & lovers with a passion for handmade and sustainable craft! In this simple but comprehensive, hands-on felting workshop you’ll learn wet felting, needle felting, and basic sewing techniques, and use them to create an adorable and engaging string toy from entirely upcycled materials!
And here’s what makes this workshop extra special: We’ll be using reclaimed wool from our toy recycling program & the nylon core from our ropewear—giving new purpose to fibers that have already been loved.

What We’ll Cover:
✅ Wet Felting- Creating a simple wool ball
✅ Basic Sewing- Creating an adorable stuffed toy from recycled felt
✅ Needle Felting- Adding details to felt creations & repairing damaged toys
This workshop is hands-on and beginner-friendly—no prior felting experience needed! You’ll leave with a unique, low waste cat toy, plus all the skills you need to continue your felting journey!
💡 We’ll provide everything you need to make the perfect string toy including optional catnip!
💡 IMPORTANT Guidelines:
We’ll have a self-serve tea station and light snacks to keep you fueled while you create. Feel free to bring your own beverage if you prefer!
🌿 Why This Workshop? We’ve heard your cries, cat parents!! Not only is this workshop an opportunity for you to get more adorable all natural felt toys for your cat, you’ll also be saving pre-loved fiber from going to waste!

Not Suitable for Young Children
- Due to the nature of the materials used, this workshop is recommended for adults and responsible teens (16+).

Info: - Meet fellow crafters, sip on tea or coffee, and settle in
- Overview of materials & tools
- What is felting? Understanding wool fiber bonding
- Going over the example toy
Info: - Cutting and knotting Nylon Rope on both ends
- Wrapping wool roving around one knotted end & loosely needle felting in place.
Info: - Agitating wool fibers with alternatingly hot soapy water & cold clean water to felt the fibers
- Setting wet felting balls aside to dry
Info: - Cutting shapes out of felt sheets using templates
- Sewing a pocket
- Filling the pocket with catnip, recycled wool, and the other knotted end of the nylon rope
- Sewing up the pocket
- Using needle felting to add small details
