Dwarf Barbados Cherry Bonsai Workshop, 04/26

Learn basic bonsai techniques to start transforming plants into bonsai. Learn why it is important to have a good soil mix, root-prune, repot, and choose the right angles when repotting. Take this knowledge home and apply it to other plants as well.

In this class we will work on the Barbados Cherry also known as 'Ayana' (here at the bonsai shop).

I'm 'Ayana' the Barbados Cherry, and I'm native to the Caribbean. My leaves are evergreen and lanceolate shaped. I have small pink flowers that grow in clusters in the spring. Sometimes my flowers eventually turn into little red fruits that resemble cherries high in vitamin C which is used to make Acerola juice, jams and jellies. I like full sun to indirect bright natural light and warmer temperatures to bloom.

This class is for beginners to intermediate.

Materials Provided: One handmade medium bonsai planter in small white, one bonsai tree, soil, decorative rocks, necessary tools for repotting. Other materials on site available for purchase.

About the instructors:

Matthew Puntigam lived and worked in Tokyo for 7 years learning bonsai techniques and garden skills while apprenticing at a garden design and bonsai shop. He opened Dandy Farmer in 2016 to bring the art of bonsai to the NYC community.
