Hala Alyan presents I'll Tell You When I'm Home
In conversation with Anna Marie Tendler
Award-winning Palestinian-American poet and novelist Hala Alyan returns to Greenlight to present her debut memoir I'll Tell You When I'm Home, a rich and deeply personal account about the experience of motherhood via surrogacy that forces her to reckon with her own past, and the legacy of her family’s exile and displacement, all in the name of a new future. As her baby grows in the body of another woman, in another country, Alyan finds her own life unraveling, and turns to family stories and communal myths, gathering that which are her legacy, setting down the ones that confine, holding close those that liberate. Emotionally charged and painstaking work, Alyan reads from and discusses the memoir with writer and visual artist Anna Marie Tendler (Men Have Called Her Crazy), before an audience Q&A and signing.
