Greenlight celebrates the work of Quite Literally Books with founders Lisa Endo Cooper and Bremond Berry MacDougall! A newly launched publisher, Quite Literally Books is a heritage press devoted to discovering and reissuing ought-to-be-in-print books by American women authors—and occasionally others—who’ve been shelved for far too long. Thus, tonight's featured titles include three forgotten but timeless books: Plum Bun by Jessie Redmond Fauset, about a talented and ambitious Black woman who passes as white to access new opportunities after leaving her Philadelphia family for Greenwich Village; The Home-Maker by Dorothy Canfield Fisher, following a 1920s family, trapped within the time's rigid gender roles, who get a second chance at domestic bliss when they throw social conventions out with the dishwater; and The Pink House by Nelia Gardner White, following a newly orphaned seven-year-old girl who moves in with her icy Aunt, absent uncle, and four casually cruel cousins—all of whom have many secrets that she longs to understand . . . or so she thinks. Join us for a celebratory evening as Cooper and MacDougal discuss these three back-in-print titles, followed by an audience Q&A.
