About the event

Cycle from Brockport to Holley for Ice Cream and back to Brockport
Enjoy a 10-mile cycle excursion along the scenic Erie Canal with a stop for ice cream in Holley, NY.

About this Event

In continued partnership with the New York Power Authority funding the On the Canals program, we are offering free three-hour excursions to all in our community with adaptive equipment available for people living with disabilities. The excursions are at least 9.76 miles. We will provide standard or adaptive (see descriptions below) cycle options and helmets. Or you can bring your own bicycle and helmet and join us; just sign up for the appropriate bring your own ticket. An ASL Interpreter can be requested with four (4) days' advance notice by emailing us at b3RjYnJvY2twb3J0IHwgZ21haWwgISBjb20=.

Wear comfortable clothing and bring your water bottle, money for ice cream, sunscreen, sunglasses, and a small drawstring bag or backpack to carry them in.

Excursions start and end at the Brockport Welcome Center (11 Water Street) in Brockport where there is municipal parking and accessible bathrooms. We will head west toward Holley, NY, and Red, White and Moo where you can purchase delicious ice cream and then head back to Brockport, passing the Holley spillway, crossing over the Bennetts Corners Road bridge, and going through Sans Souci Park to the Welcome Center.

The complete excursion is about 10 miles: Brockport to Holley and back. We are offering three options:

  1. Full Round Trip: our end turnaround point is Red, White and Moo (51 Public Square, Holley, NY). We will stop for ice cream and then return to Brockport.
  2. Half Trip Option: Ride to Holley and have ice cream. Leave the bike there and arrange for your own ride home from there. NOTE: you must have your own transportation planned out ahead of time. We will take the bike back but cannot transport you at this time. You MUST pre-arrange this with us BEFORE the day of the ride.
  3. Turn Back When You Need To: Ride out with the full group and go as far as you want before turning around and riding back to the Brockport Welcome Center. If you don't go all the way to Holley, you will miss out on the ice cream.

Excursions are open to participants age 12 and up. If under 18, you must be accompanied by an adult. Available standard bicycles are adult size.

ADAPTIVE equipment is designed for those who need those adaptations in order to participate alongside family and friends. If you are unsure of what you might need, please contact us at b3RjYnJvY2twb3J0IHwgZ21haWwgISBjb20=. Pictures and descriptions of the adaptive equipment are shown below. Please note that we will confirm the appropriate equipment prior to the excursion date. We reserve the right to cancel your reservation if we are unable to confirm.

If you can use STANDARD equipment and all of those have been reserved, please choose another date when there is availability so that the adaptive equipment may be reserved for those who need it.

Excursions are from 1:30 to 4:30 pm on July 12 and July 27. Please continue to check dates as plans change and tickets may become available at a later date. Check out our kayaking excursions June through August 2025 where we also offer adaptive kayaks.

Adaptive Equipment:

There are three types of adaptive cycles available (see tickets):

The EZ Tri Classic is very comfortable with a padded seat and mesh seat back for good airflow. The seat is high enough at 22 inches that getting on and off is relatively easy; it has a weight capacity of 300 lbs.

Handlebars can be lowered or raised to make steering and braking the bike within comfortable arm range for many. With three wheels, the trike has good stability and is easy to handle at various speeds with the 21-gear shifter, and it makes stopping to rest possible without getting off or putting your food down! Our EZ 3 Classics come with an adaptive foot pedal for added power and foot stability during your ride.

The MonoMano is a fantastic adaptive bike created by students at the University of Rochester. Designed to help address the needs of one side weakness, the MonoMano is mounted on an EZ 3 trike and bypasses the standard handlebars to enable individuals to control the steering, braking, and gear shifting with one harm/hand with easy centralized locus of control. The MonoMano can be set up to provide greater control for either the left or right side.

Our MonoMano trike comes equipped with adaptive foot pedals for greater power and foot stability. The weight capacity is 300 lbs.

The Hand Cycle is a great way to have fun, get fit and stay active so you can enjoy life to the fullest - so get cranking. Stable, maneuverable and easy to transfer into and out of, the Excelsior Stock Handcycle can go up to 15 mph. It features a simple fore-aft sliding seat, uncomplicated adjustable footrest system and a straightforward crank height adjustment.
