The team at Artspace Lifespace invite you through the heavy wooden doors of The Island to experience the 1920’s police headquarters building turned arts centre. Peek inside artists’ studios, see their work exhibited, take part in a dance class or circus class or participate in an artist workshop.
Building tours cost £4 per person, all other activities are free. See
https://artspace.uk/the-island-open-studios-2025/ for full programme and opening times.
Artspace Lifespace is a charity who transform vacant properties into thriving creative spaces. The Island is the longest standing of their ‘meanwhile building’ projects. Originally taken on in 2007 with a three month licence to occupy, the building has now become a stalwart of alternative creativity in the heart of Bristol supporting hundreds of artists, performers and musicians in the 40+ studios, circus training space, dance studio, gallery, sewing studio and night club.
Doors will be open to the public on the 26th to the 28th September. On Saturday the 27th try something new with a free dance or circus skills taster class. From Aerial Hoop to Contemporary Dance, each of the teachers are members of The Island community holding weekly classes in either The Island dance studio or the circus training space.
Open times: Friday 26th (exhibition only), 12 - 5pm, Saturday 27th, 12 - 5pm and Sunday 28th (exhibition only), 12 - 4pm.
