Rosie is a natural history producer/director at the BBC Natural History Unit and has spent 4 years producing the Chimpanzee episode of the Dynasty series which won the Panda in the Pocket Award at Wildscreen Festival 2020.
After completing a Bachelors degree in Biology and a Masters degree in Taxonomy and Biodiversity studying at the Natural History Museum in London, Rosie worked in a number of different genres before joining the BBCs Natural History Unit 20 years ago, to work on the multi award winning series, LIFE. She has since worked on other award winning productions including AFRICA and Monkey Planet.
She has travelled all over the world filming a wide range of different animals, from Elephants in Central Africa to Lizards in Tasmania, but she has spent a large part of her career filming Primates, all across the globe. She spent 2 years filming a single group of Chimpanzees in a remote part of Senegal for the Dynasties series, and adopting a different style of innovative story telling and the latest camera technologies to bring the true life drama of their story to your screens.
More recently, she has produced films on both the Green Planet series and Dynasties 2.
In Green Planet the focus was on the world of plants. Rosie had this to say:
"Plants are vital to our survival, and I think given the current state of our planet, this was a critical time to make this series. Across the series we all felt that it was hugely important to show the impacts of deforestation, climate change and biodiversity loss, and what can be done to help change this. While also showing the beauty that is out there and why it is in need of protecting."
Join in the interactive fun this Wednesday morning in our Q&A with Rosie Thomas at 11am, after a walk and a talk around the grounds of Lockleaze Sports Centre with fellow members and a complimentary cuppa at 10am.
