PLEASE RSVP so I can book a table at the pub!
Meet at: back of Temple Meads near Greggs

What we're doing: 5-6 mile walk to the Old Lock and Weir pub in Hanham. We'll follow the Feeder canal to the Avon, passing an urban sand martin nest site, before winding through the woods of Conham River park and beyond. Keep an eye out for kingfishers, herons, and if we're ridiculously lucky, otters. Stopping to look at interesting things is strongly encouraged on these walks!
Optional climb up Trooper's Hill en route for a view, butterflies and acid-loving plants.
We'll finish up at the Lock and Weir pub, where there's the option to buy a late lunch.
Getting home from the Lock and Weir: There is no public transport from the pub itself but buses to Bristol city centre stop frequently at the Hicks Gate or Keynsham Cemetery stops, both of which are just under 30 mins walk away. You can also arrange a taxi or Uber, walk ~50 mins to Keynsham railway station, or just walk back the way we came!
Terrain and facilities: Mostly flat unless you choose to come up Trooper's Hill, which is very steep. Paths can be uneven after the urban section.
Toilets at Conham River Park and the pub.
There are no shops near the path so please bring all the water and snacks you need, but you can usually buy coffee and cake from a van in Conham River Park so don't forget your reusable mug! ☕
Who is Bristol Nature Network?
We're a friendly group of younger (~20s-40s) nature enthusiasts in the Bristol area! We organise informal events like monthly pub meetups and walks.
Please note our events are for over 18s only.
