Art In Bristol

If Victor Pinchuk's saying that Art, freedom, and creativity will change society faster... be true then Bristol a city known for its rich and eventful maritime history including the popular floating harbor has made no error in deciding to enrich their creative industry. Located in southern England, Bristol is one of the warmest places in the United Kingdom and a city well known for its rich tradition and artistic trait. You are just as likely to find engaging historical exhibits displayed with pride in the form of street art in Bristol, popularly amongst them are the SS Great Britain, the first iron-hulled, propeller-driven ship to cross the Atlantic and the Customs House in Queen Square, where the taxes and duties were collected from the ships that came into the city's harbor.

Art Museums in Bristol

Bristol can boast of ever-changing and ever-inspiring museums and galleries. The museums come in all shapes and sizes. From Brunel’ SS Great Britain, an incredibly immersive experience transporting you back to Victorian times, to M Shed, the city’s social history museum housed in a 1950s transit shed.

We cannot make mention of art museums in Bristol without talking about the Bristol Museum of Art and Gallery – a magnificent space exploring the city’s archaeology, natural history and more. It is a museum that tells the Bristol story in every display from the beginning of time until now. It has 19 galleries over 3 floors that show fascinating cultures, ancient civilizations, a human invention, and creativity, as well as showcasing the beautiful and fragile natural world of Bristol. Every floor has something to offer. Fascinating amongst them is the art gallery on the second floor where you will discover the works of Bellini, Cranach, Renior, Pissarro, Sisley, Bomberg, Hepworth and Beryl Cook amongst other great artists.

Another beautiful building that exhibits work from some of the country’s best artists is the Royal West of England Academy (RWA), it’s the first ever art gallery in Bristol. A tour on the train of Bristol art galleries will land us at a leading center for contemporary art located on the harbourside of Bristol called Arnolfini, a center for contemporary arts known for its extraordinary engagement with arts. Blessed with an active gallery which is sited on the southern end of historic waterfront in a former Brooke Bond tea packing factory, a working artist studio and art gallery in Bristol called Spike Island. The best thing about Spike Island is that visitors have the chance to display their artistic skills.

Street Art in Bristol

Decorating the city’s walls, street art in Bristol is simply breathtaking.  Alongside narrow alleys, down side-streets, and through under-passages, across building walls and boldly displayed on bridges, a piece of art greets you with humor and a display of pop-culture. This brings to the memory of the famous Bristol street art. If you are passionate about taking your art to the street then make a trip to the famous Stokes Coft.

Do not visit an art museum or art gallery in Bristol without taking part in the best Bristol Family Arts Festival, a festival that is packed full with creative activities for all ages, or Upfest, top street art festival in Bristol, or the Other Art Fair, a fair that produces an opportunity for undiscovered artists.
