Step into a dazzling afternoon of bold brass, soaring vocals, and timeless grooves as the Brisbane Jazz Orchestra (BJO): a world-class 19-piece big band with over 20 years of musical mastery, delivers a spectacular tribute to two groundbreaking icons: Stan Kenton and Stevie Wonder, as well as featuring other classic arrangements.
Stan Kenton was a visionary American bandleader, pianist, and arranger who revolutionized big band jazz with his bold, forward-looking sound across four decades.
Stevie Wonder, a true titan of 20th century music, redefined the possibilities of jazz, pop, soul, and funk from the 1970s to today; his influence crossing genres and generations.
This thrilling performance features arrangements by Kenton himself, as well as Stevie Wonder classics reimagined by top arrangers from around the world, plus brand-new arrangements premiering for the very first time, as well as well-loved big band standards.
Expect a setlist packed with iconic and crowd-favourite tunes, including: ‘My Cherie Amour’, ‘I Wish’, ‘Higher Ground’, ‘I Can’t Help It’, ‘I’ve Never Been in Love Before’, ‘The Peanut Vendor’, ‘Street of Dreams’, ‘A Little Minor Booze’ …and many more!
