Anthony is a PhD student in the disciplines of History and Cultural Geography at the University of the Sunshine Coast under the supervision of Professor Patrick Nunn and Doctors Amy Clarke and Shannon Brincat. His 2018 bachelor’s degree majored in History, Sociology and Australian Studies and his 2019 first class Honour’s degree was a study of the ‘Roots of Queensland’s Peculiar Parochial Populism’.
Anthony established the Baroon History group in the Sunshine Coast hinterland in 2022 that focuses on Indigenous and colonial local history and is a regular speaker at these events. He has co-authored research on behalf of the CWA on their Northern division’s establishment and history.
Anthony currently teaches History at the University of the Sunshine Coast.
Anthony’s PhD topic is titled, ‘From Flinders to Federation; The beautiful lies of Colonial Queensland’s Dreaming.’ It examines the roots of, and application and transition of colonial ideological themes that finally created the ethical and moral approval of the implementation of the Aboriginal Protection and Restriction of the Sale of Opium Act of 1897.
Today, he will outline some of those themes and their roots.
