About the event

The Vernon Spring - The Seasonal Spring: 'summer edition'
thursday 17 july | 19:00 | £16 or all-season discount ticket £48

Well this is a special one!! After bumping into The Vernon Spring at The Level, and him realising we are one of the only places in town with a felt piano (one with a middle pedal that pushes a strip of felt onto the piano strings to make the piano tone deliciously gentle and muted), he went away and devised this wonderful new series…!

Marking the passing of the seasons and celebrating the particular delights of each, Sam Beste, aka The Vernon Spring hosts a new quarterly event series titled “The Seasonal Spring” together with the artist community he co-founded Lima Limo. Each event brings together a selection of artists from Lima Limo Records and will always feature a solo performance by The Vernon Spring himself.

Summer edition: 17th July 2025

Autumn edition: 24th October 2025

Winter edition: 29th January 2026

Spring edition: 14th May 2026

NB we are offering a special All-Season discounted ticket for entry to all four events.

For the Summer Edition there will be performances from new signing Saoirse-Juno, Indian Devotional singer Ranjana Ghatak as well as a solo set by The Vernon Spring

One pound from every ticket will go to The Sameer Project- an initiative that is facilitating the sourcing and distribution of aid to displaced families all over the Gaza Strip. Created by 3 Palestinians living in the diaspora and supported by ground teams in Gaza they provide support in the form of shelter, medication, food, water, diapers and more. They aim to promote resilience, maintain dignity and provide agency for the families they provide for.

The Vernon Spring:

Sam Beste is an extremely well seasoned musician! He was Amy Winehouse’s live pianist for the majority of her ascendent career (!) and their pairing paved the way for other significant and diverse collaborations, including work with Gabriels, Kendrick Lamar producer Sounwave, Beth Orton, Kano, Joy Crookes, Matthew Herbert, and MF DOOM. He spent his mid-twenties writing, recording and performing with alt-soul outfit Hejira and helped form the Lima Limo collective and label, which offered a supportive community and inspiring creative foundation.

By 2019, he began releasing solo music as The Vernon Spring, developing a voice that merged his jazz background with contemporary electronic production. His debut EP and subsequent releases, including the acclaimed A Plane Over Woods and Earth, On A Good Day, established a signature sound for The Vernon Spring: ethereal piano work layered with emotive vocals and subtle electronics.

More recently, after emerging from a long period of compositional and process-based experimentation, Beste broadened his sonic landscape, integrating hip-hop influences and sample-driven methods while sustaining his characteristic piano composition throughout. Under a Familiar Sun, The Vernon Spring's new album showcases the breadth of Beste's artistic evolution.

Ranjana Ghatak:

Ranhana Ghatak is a singer and composer specialising in North Indian classical and devotional Hindustani vocal traditions; she explores traditional music in addition to juxtaposing the beauty of sacred vocal music with contemporary instrumentation. She is known for her many collaborations with a wide range of musicians. Ranjana studied classical and devotional Hindustani vocal music under the guidance of Maestro Pandit Ajoy Chakabarty. .

Performances include Wigmore Hall, Barbican Hall, Cadogan Hall, Buckingham Palace and the Opening Ceremony of the Commonwealth Games, whilst her many collaborations include London Philharmonic Orchestra, Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Nitin Sawhney and James Yorkston. Composing credits include a vocal piece for 130 singers inspired by Ravi Shankar’s opera and a Raga inspired choral piece for the Glasgow Commonwealth Games.

Saoirse-Juno

Saoirse-Juno writes, records and produces music on the South coast of England, with the windows open. Her first EP 'Weighed In Green' is being released on Lima Limo records.
