Dying to Share is about connection - we have grief and loss in common. Hannah hosts a community space for everyone to share what is present for them and meet people who can relate.
Free to attend - Open to all.
Every year Hannah hosts an event in Brighton and Hove during Dying Matters Week. This year the theme is 'Why the Culture of Dying Matters'
The mission of Dying Matters is to break down the stigma and taboo of talking about death and dying.
Dying Matters invites us this year to explore the following:
💛 Do we all have the same attitudes, views and practices on death and dying?
💛 There are of course many differences in the ways that cultures and faiths approach and mark death and dying. But at their core, feelings about dying, and our experiences of grief, are universal emotions that we all share, no matter who we are or where we live.
💛 While a friend or family member’s death can affect every person differently, studies of grieving brains have shown that there are no scientific differences in relation to race, age or religion.
💛 We can all feel the impact of the loss, helplessness, sadness – but we may do it, and show it, in different ways. We may all talk about death and dying in a multitude of ways, but we share a common thread.
This Dying Matters Awareness Week, we’re focusing on how different communities and cultures in the UK feel, talk about, and deal with death and dying – and what brings them together.
Dying to Share is a space for members of our local community to share and story-tell their experiences of grief and loss with the intention to increase awareness of death and dying with the desire to help us all live and die well.
Be supported as you share with like-hearted locals, come alone, or with friends.
This event is for everyone and for all ages and is free to attend.
Dying to Share is supported by Brighton and Hove City Council.

Meet Hannah Rayya
Hosting Dying to Share is a role I deeply cherish. Sitting in circle is a sacred act, yet there is something wonderfully informal, familiar and cosy about coming together with a mug of warm tea.
Dying to Share is about connection - we have grief and loss in common. I host a safe place for everyone to share what is present for them.
Many people attend Dying to Share more than once. I believe this is because they find something special and heart-warming in the connection members of the circle create. Many feel isolated in their grief. Dying to Share gently softens the experience of isolation, members realise they are no longer alone - healing happens in community.
My experience
Supporting family members throughout their dying journey, I desired to find a way to assist others in our community die feeling loved, held and safe.
I discovered the art of Soul Midwifery and completed my training with Felicity Warner.
I later volunteered as a Community Companion at St Barnabas Hospice in Worthing. At the Martlets Hospice in Hove, I volunteered to sit with the dying. Individuals who had no family and had expressed they did not want to die alone.
During 2020-21 I worked for the home care agency Caremark. As a care assistant I visited people's homes to provide personal and bespoke care.
I have been hosting Dying to Share since May 2019 in Brighton and Hove, since January 2022 we have met every month.
