An outdoor adventure for children with SEND* and their families
Join Wayfinder Calderdale CIC for our new monthly Wayfinder Wanders – calming, creative outdoor sessions designed with neurodivergent children and their families in mind.
August’s walk is themed “Meet the Forest Guardians”
We’ll go on a gentle nature walk, collect fallen treasures along the way, and then make our very own “Pocket Forest Guardian” — a magical creature made from natural materials to take home and care for. There’ll be time afterwards to unwind and chat at the Cromwell Bottom Café, with drinks and refreshments available by donation.
This event is designed for children with SEND, including autistic and ADHD children, and is sibling-friendly. It’s a relaxed, inclusive, low-pressure environment where families can enjoy time in nature and connect with others who get it.
*diagnosis is not required
Please meet at the gate just across the bridge from the car park at Cromwell Bottom Nature Reserve for a 10:00am start.📍 Free parking is available on site.
We recommend arriving 10 minutes early so we can start together.
We welcome all needs and abilities. There are several routes available at Cromwell Bottom, including a fully accessible option, and we’ll adjust the walk to suit the group on the day. The walk will be around 1–2 miles depending on needs.
Please let us know about any access requirements when booking — we’re here to make it work for you.
Whilst siblings are welcome, this event may not be suitable for very young children or those in pushchairs. We are happy to chat and make arrangements for you if needed, though! Just get in touch.
Walks start and finish at the Cromwell Bottom Café, where toilets and cover are available.Drinks and light refreshments are available from the café by donation.
This is a free event, with the option to add a donation at checkout to support future Wayfinder activities. If you'd like to donate, we recommend £2 per child.
Booking is essential, as places are limited to keep the session calm and manageable.
Children must be accompanied by an adult. Please note a parent/guardian can accompany a maximum of four children per event. We cannot be responsible for unsupervised children.
We can’t wait to wander with you!
