We will be painting at different locations every week in and around downtown Brattleboro. The first class will meet at 10 am in Main Street Studio, downstairs, at 34 Main Street.
Why paint townscapes directly from nature?
We use the same approach we use in the studio, but the light is our subject .We concentrate on color, value ,masses , warm vs.cool and all color relationships. We work quickly. We use limited materials. We make sketches with paint. Plein air painting in a town teaches us to focus, not just by tuning out the busy world, but learning how to eliminate the noise in a composition and focus on its essential elements. This is also an Impressionist approach to painting. We will study to learn to see our human made world the way Monet saw a Haystack.
