Sat 5/10, Mother's Day Weekend Fun: Intro to Punch Needle Embroidery with Hilary, 11-2pm

Punch needle is a fiber craft dating back to the 1880’s, but is experiencing a big resurgence in popularity with more modern designs and applications. Existing somewhere between hand tooled rug hooking and embroidery, punch needle involves punching a needle through fabric in a repetitive motion to create amazing designs with loops of yarn. It’s a fun, relaxing and easy craft that can be turned into wall art, patches, pillows, rugs… just about anything made with a textile! And with the easy to use Amy Oxford wood punch needle tool, even first timers can walk away with a beautiful piece made in a few hours.

In this class you will complete a punch needle project from start to finish and learn about material selection, loading the tool, what yarns work best, working with a pattern to create your own design, punch needle techniques, and options for finishing your piece! In class you will use an Amy Oxford wooden punch needle tool (size 8 or 10), a $12 10x10 inch frame stretched with high quality Monks Cloth, acrylic & wool yarns, a pattern and a guide. Punch Needle tools are borrowed for class but you can purchase one for $40 after class if you like, we use the best ones around to set you up for success. You project will be ready to hang on the wall once complete, or can be taken off the frame to sew into something amazing. You can choose from several patterns or make your own.
