Restorative yoga is a calm and restful practice that focuses on the meditative aspects of yoga and the connection between body, mind and spirit. It is restful, mindful and powerful. We hold postures for longer periods using props to support the body and focus on release and ease by utilising the breath to let go of any tension felt during the session. Interoception (looking inward) is a huge part of the practice as we connect to our sense of Self and allow the body to rest, digest and connect.
When your body enters a state of relaxation, your mind can also consciously relax as tension melts away. The only work required during a restorative yoga practice is to pay attention to your breath, become aware of any sensations or thoughts that may arise, and then gently release them.
This beautiful practice increases relaxation, improves sleep, enhances mood and general wellbeing and reduces pain, all whilst being very gentle on the body and calming in the mind.
The session is 2 hours long, enough time for a deep yoga nidra (guided meditative relaxation practice) at the end. Bring layers of comfortable clothing, a comfy blanket and a bolster if you have one (if not, do please let me know so I can bring one along for you).
