Join us on Sunday 6th July from midday at Hengistbury Head as we raise our kites – and our voices – for peace, justice, and a liveable future.
In solidarity with those affected by violence in Gaza, Ukraine, Iran, nSyria, Sudan and beyond, XR BCP invites you to celebrate love, not war with a powerful act of hope and unity: Kites of Peace.
Inspired by a peace movement in Kenya, we’re bringing together environmental and social justice groups across Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole to call for an end to conflict – and a beginning of collaboration.
What’s happening:
🪁 Bring your own kite (or just come and enjoy the view!) and fly it high in the name of peace
🕊 Art-blocking stall – print the XR peace dove on your kite or clothing
🥁 XR BCP Rhythms will be drumming for peace
🚲 Cycling Rebellion Critical Mass will end at Hengistbury Head to join the gathering
War and climate chaos are deeply connected - the military is one of the world’s biggest polluters, yet its emissions go largely uncounted. Fossil fuels fuel conflict – from oil-driven wars to the resource instability made worse by climate breakdown. Displacement, destruction, and injustice are worsened by both war and climate collapse. We stand for a world where peace and planet come first.
As authoritarianism rises and the far right threatens both human rights and climate policy, our resistance must be intersectional. Now more than ever, we need solidarity between environmental and social justice movements.
Come with a kite, a wish for peace, and a commitment to change.
Together, we rise.
