Northwoods Canids

The Boulder Junction Public Library will be hosting a presentation the presentation “Northwoods Canids” with Alaina Roth, Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources Vilas County Wildlife Biologist on Tuesday, June 17 at 7:00pm at the Boulder Junction Community Center, 5392 Park Street.

Canids are a fancy word for wildlife species in the dog family. There are four species of wild canids in Wisconsin and all of them call Vilas County home. Come learn about the biology, ecology and natural history of each species and how they coexist.

Alaina Roth is the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources Vilas County wildlife biologist and also the statewide Ruffed Grouse Specialist. She has worked for the Department since 2019 and was formerly the Assistant Upland wildlife specialist. Alaina earned her Bachelor’s degree from University of Wisconsin – Stevens Point and later a Master’s degree from Louisiana State University. Alaina has been professionally employed in the wildlife field for 5 years and has worked in 5 different states studying everything from mountain lions and black bears to quail and turkeys.

Alaina is originally from Green Bay, Wisconsin but has lived in the Northwoods for over 5 years. Alaina decided to pursue a career in wildlife after spending a childhood outdoors hunting, fishing, and camping with her family. In her free time, Alaina loves hunting, fishing and cooking wild game.
