Boston Transported and the Boston Hanse Group have collaborated previously on projects such as Boston Unfurled, and have regularly brought creative activities to their Hanseatic Day event. You can find out more about the collaboration here:

This year, the organisations are collaborating to stretch their collective ambitions even further with an captivating flag procession at 2025’s International Hanseatic Day.
Leading up to the big day, artist Donna Fox will be running free silk painting batik workshops where you can help create stunning, heritage-inspired flags. These will be proudly paraded in a colourful finale of the event, enhanced by some of Donna’s larger costumes.
With Ruth Pigott of Curiosity Creators, also before the main event, create unique, folkloric headdresses that will be worn by the live drummers led by Chris Lewis-Jones as part of the festivities.
In addition to the parade, here's what else you can expect on the day:
-Live drumming led by musician and artist Chris Lewis-Jones who has previously performed in Boston at the annual Illuminate Parade
-With Ruth Pigott, make a simple sheep ear headband! Kids (and adults!) can wear them during the parade to show their support for our drumming flock
-Dance Performances choreographed by Beth Williams, with dancers performing with the new hand painted banners that Donna and her team have created, co-designed with local community.
-Medieval Entertainment, including a jester, the Lincoln Waites musicians, and a bustling medieval village with crafts such as mosaics, bow-making, woodcarving, spinning, and a forge.
-Medieval Food & Beer for you to sample and enjoy.
🟠 Grand Parade at 12:30pm – Don’t miss this spectacular finale
We’ll also be hosting creative activities throughout the day, so there’s plenty for everyone to enjoy. Find out more about the free silk painting workshops (booking required) and our special market day activity below:

We’re thrilled to be working on an exciting new project that brings together history, culture, and creativity — and we’d love you to be part of it!
Our Goals:
- Help more people connect with Boston’s rich historical roots
- Celebrate the town’s European connections and involve our Central and Eastern European communities
- Create more opportunities for children and young people to get involved
- Deliver it all in a fun, vibrant, and memorable way
Why We’re Doing It:
- With your help, we’re aiming to:
Engage new people who may feel less connected to the local arts scene but love outdoor events and festivals
- Develop exciting seasonal events that draw visitors and showcase Boston’s cultural heritage
- Boost local skills in festival-making to inspire even bigger and better events in the future
The event and programme of activities are possible thanks to Arts Council England, Boston Hanse Group, Transported and Boston Borough Council.
