About the event

Create Masked Headdresses for International Hanseatic Day
Join artist Ruth Pigott to create unique, folkloric headdresses for a special performance at Boston's International Hanseatic Day celebrations on Saturday 31st May. These striking sheep-themed masks will be worn by live drummers led by Chris Lewis-Jones as part of the festivities.

We’re looking for up to 10 participants to help bring these designs to life. It would be great if you can join both workshops, but it’s not essential. To book your place, please email: dHJhbnNwb3J0ZWQgfCBsaW5jb2xuICEgYWMgISB1aw==.

Workshop 1: Make the Masks

Monday 12th May, 10:30am – 1:30pm
Fydell House, Boston
Get creative with card, paper and papier mâché to shape the sheep heads and headbands. Ruth will then take the pieces away to sand and paint them in preparation for the next session.

Workshop 2: Sewing & Assembly

Thursday 22nd May, 10:30am – 1:30pm
Fydell House, Boston
Use fabric, ribbons and haberdashery to sew the decorative elements that complete each headdress. All stitching will be simple zigzag—ideal for all skill levels, including beginners. Sewing machines will be provided. If time allows, we’ll begin assembling the final pieces.

Family Drop-In: Make Your Own Sheep Ears!

Saturday 31st May, 10:00am – 12:00pm
In front of the Ingram Memorial, Boston
Come along to our fun, family-friendly stall at the International Hanseatic Day event and make a simple sheep ear headband! Kids (and adults!) can wear them during the parade to show their support for our drumming flock.

Ruth’s imaginative design is a perfect fusion of medieval and folkloric style—come be a part of something creative, collaborative, and full of character!

The events are part of a series of creative workshops leading up to the International Hanseatic Day, working with the Boston Hanse Group, for 2025 we’re building on past events to deliver a bigger, more exciting day than ever before brings together history, culture, and creativity — and we’d love you to be part of it!
