• Learn about the history of one of the area’s earliest “streetcar suburbs.” Platted in 1890, South Boise was a village separate from Boise City.
See the rich variety of buildings in this working-class neighborhood. Homes range from large Victorians and Colonials to small “alley houses” built as garages. Learn about the South Boise Fire Station, Rossi Street Car Barn, and the three Garfield Schools!
Your tour guides will be historians Barbara Perry Bauer of TAG Historical Research & Consulting, and Emily Fritchman Mahaney, History Lecturer at Boise State University. Both are longtime Southeast Boise residents.
• Tours begin and end at the historic 1891 J. R. Chitwood House at 1321 Denver Avenue. After your tour, enjoy a free ice cream and tour the grounds of this home listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
• Six tours will be offered, at 10:00 am, 10:30 am, 11:30 am, 12:00 pm, 1:00 pm and 1:30 pm.
